Q: How long does the adoption process take?
A: The process takes about 30 minutes after you have picked an animal to adopt.
Q: What is involved in the adoption process?
A: We have an adoption application that you will fill out. If you are a renter we will need to call your landlord to get approval. If you can bring approval from your landlord that will speed up the process some.
Q: What do I need to bring along?
A: If you are a renter and can bring landlord approval that will help speed up the adoption process. If adopting a cat and you have a carrier, bring it along to transport your new family member home safely. If you do not have one, we sell reusable cardboard carriers for $5.00. You will need to bring any other dogs in your home to meet the dog you are considering for adoption to ensure they will get along. We accept cash, check, Visa, MasterCard and Discover as forms of payment.
Q: What are my options if the cat or dog is not a good fit in my home?
A: If your newly adopted cat or dog is having trouble adjusting, please give the shelter a call at 503-472-0341 . We have many suggestions to help your new family member feel at home.
- Obedience training
- Pheromone Collars
- Thunder Jacket
After discussing with the shelter, we will take the cat or dog back within 30 days of the adoption date. The adoption fee is non-refundable but we will issue a “credit” for 6 months and help you find the perfect pet for your home. If it is longer than 30 days, we will ask for a surrender fee.
