Harley’s Happy Adoption Story
During our Season of Giving, Homeward Bound Pets is looking to our generous community to help us raise $25,000 before December 31st.
As each animal arrives scared and alone at the Homeward Bound Pets Animal Shelter, they hear unfamiliar sounds and meet many strangers. Each dog and cat receive individualized time with our staff and volunteers to ensure they receive the proper care.
Over the years, we have helped over 15,000 animals who were either abandoned, surrendered, or found as a stray. To get an animal ready for adoption, it costs HBPets an average of $275 if no surgeries are required, with the exception of spay/neuter procedures.
If you would like to make a donation to our Season of Giving campaign, you may do so on our website here, or by mailing a check to Homeward Bound Pets at PO Box 8 McMinnville, OR 97128.
To make a donation in person, you may visit one of the following locations in McMinnville: Animal Shelter 10601 SE Loop Road, Thrift Shop 1120 NE Lafayette Avenue (in the J&W Carstar parking lot), and our Spay/Neuter Clinic 723 NE Evans Street.
With the support from our community, Homeward Bound Pets is able to care for those without a voice.
The family that adopted Harley had this to say:
“When we first saw Harley on Facebook, we felt sorry for him and went in to meet him. The poor, old man had terribly matted fur on his entire body, as well as three benign tumors. Homeward Bound Pets provided excellent care for Harley as he underwent surgery to remove the tumors and during his visit to the groomer to be completely shaved.
When we brought him home, he was quite a handful. My wife and I spent time having him trained and we also got a little dog to be his friend. Harley follows Peanut around everywhere and they are best buddies! He is now fully house trained, uses a doggy door and is well behaved. Harley is doing great! He’s an old dog and will live out the rest of his life having fun and being surrounded with love.
We would like to thank Homeward Bound Pets for all of the work they do in our community for animals in need. We’re so glad to have Harley as a part of our family! “
We were thrilled to receive a check for $3,722.76 as a result of a fundraiser the winery hosted all summer long, donating 20% of the sales of their featured wines.
The fundraiser is a part of their employee charitable donation program and HBPets was nominated by Ken Wright Cellars employee, J’Aime du Mauriee.
Thank you to all who visited the winery over the summer and helped to give back to our community. Cheers!

Are you hosting a large Thanksgiving dinner? Be sure to save your bottles and cans – we can recycle them and the proceeds go directly to help the animals in our care!
Please keep our thrift shop plastic bottle and aluminum can recycling program in mind as the season of social events begins.
We are excited to be partnering with Salem Harley-Davidson for the second year in a row for our Fourth Annual Dawgs & Hogs Poker Run! This FUNdraising event will be held on July 11, 2020 and our riders will be making four stops at local breweries before their final stop at Salem Harley-Davidson where our after party will be held.
In order to provide care and rehabilitation to even more stray and homeless animals next year, we have increased our fundraising goal for the 2020 event. To reach that goal, we need to incorporate higher value items and experiences into our silent auction.
We look forward to seeing you on your next shopping trip to find your next treasure. Also welcome are your donations of items to sell in our shop.
Homeward Bound Pets is always looking for foster families for our kittens and puppies. We need at least 6 foster families for puppies before we can begin our puppy foster program. Do you have room in your heart and home? We provide everything you need to foster. All you need to offer is your home and love.
Foster families must reside within McMinnville, or no more than 15 minutes from our shelter, which is located at 10601 SE Loop Road (for emergency purposes). We hold monthly foster orientations.
If you cannot foster but would like to help with our foster program, please consider making a donation to help purchase the supplies needed to help our fosters care for the animals. Please call or text the HBPets foster coordinator at 971-285-4631 if you would like more information.
LOOKING FOR HER
Farrah was surrendered to HBPets due to her previous owner’s health. She would do best in a home with children older than 10 and with no other animals. Farrah does well with other dogs at the beach or river but will need to be the only dog in the home as she is a strong protector of her people and wouldn’t enjoy another dog interrupting her play time.
She can be a bit rowdy at times, but she is such a lover. Farrah gives great kisses and loves to cuddle! She has a lot of energy and she is looking for a home with a big, fenced yard. She does well with farm animals including chickens and horses but can be a bit wary of goats! Her favorite thing to do is play catch with a tennis ball!
This sweet girl is spayed, micro-chipped, up to date on all vaccines including rabies, and treated for internal and external parasites. Farrah is approximately 3 years old and her adoption fee is $200.
CHESTER IS READY TO BE ADOPTED!
Meet Chester! This beautiful boy LOVES food and will do just about anything for a treat! He loves to play and run around, but also likes to cuddle and just be around his people.
He was brought to HBPets through dog control when his previous owner was never found. This handsome boy is looking for a home with no children under 13. Chester does well with other dogs with proper introduction. He is approximately 1.5 years old.
Chester is neutered, micro-chipped, up to date on all vaccines including rabies, and treated for internal and external parasites. His adoption fee is $250.
If you’re interested in meeting Chester, please visit our shelter at 10601 SE Loop Rd.
